In the Quest for Storage

In the spring of this year my husband Scott and I were asked
to paint a new built-in unit in a client's home.
Her living room/den is fairly large but her problem was storage.
There was none!
So she had her trim carpenter build this unit.
This gives her plenty of room for DVDs, photo albums, toys for the grand kids, etc. Plus a very nice display area.
She wasn't sure how she wanted to paint it but knew she wanted black.
After she called and asked if we'd be interested, we painted some sample boards and got to work!
(I meant to take pictures before this stage but kept forgetting my camera!)
Our client chose a black base with a "mocha putty" glaze. We primed, painted, stained the beaded board and then glazed it. This particular glaze is a gray-taupe color and lighter than the black paint. It gives it a nice "aged" look.

We brushed the glaze on and then immediately started wiping it off leaving a generous amount in the cracks and crevices.
The trim detail on this piece was great to highlight the glaze.

Voila!
The finished piece!
We waited a few days for the paint and glaze to truly cure and then got to work
accessorizing. She had an amazing number of accessories to choose from
so it all came together quickly!
She was so pleased with the results.
As a matter of fact...so am I!

  3. It looks great. I love the aged look and the detail of not painting the bead board so it pops.
