Lampshade Projects and A Giveaway Reminder

One of the finishing touches in Judy's guest bedroom was adding custom details to two lampshades in the space.
The first was a simple apple green lampshade found at Target.
Using flat backed crystal gems from Hobby Lobby and E-6000 glue...
I added a row of crystals across the bottom edge.  I continued with a sun, moon & stars, and raincloud design around the body of the shade.

The second lamp had a solid white shade.
Using leftover fabric from the room's bedding I covered the shade in navy blue twill.  For this step, I cut the fabric to fit, sewed a seam and glued the fabric in place.
I then added ribbon. Gluing in place one row of ribbon across the top edge of the shade and...
layering three ribbons along the bottom edge.  I used hot glue to add the ribbon.
I have a tendency to think, "Why plain, when you can add detail?" The colorful shade is so much better than the plain white-on-white lamp. At least for this space it is!

  2. I love them! So pretty and they do add that special touch. Things like that are what makes room custom and "designer".

  3. The fabric and ribbon shade looks fantastic, Sonya! I love the other one, too, but knowing me, those gems would be attached to all my fingers and never make it on the lampshade! I am sometimes adhesively challenged.

  4. Sonya both shades are lovely. I especially love the one with the bling! lol. Though, I don't think I could handle them in such a neat and clean way. Thanks for sharing them. Luv-Loretta

  14. Love that green lampshade. Green seems to be the thing this Spring. I just added two apple green items to my shop. Sonya....it sure is a small world. My husband grew up in Martinsville and taught school and coached football there for the first year of our marriage. I know Basset and the surrounding towns well. :)

  15. So pretty! I love what you did with the last lamp. I've been thinking of doing the same thing but wondered if it was ok to use glue due to the heat from the light bulb. You did a great job on both lamps! Lovely!

  16. Sonya, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment on the chair post! I love your blog. I am literally leaving soon to go look for fabric to recover a lamp shade - so this post was perfect timing. I LOVE that Dr Seuss room - oh my word, it's awesome. I'm your newest follower (via rss feed).

  17. Hi Sonya! Those are both absolutely beautiful and you gave them such a custom and expensive look. The lamp with the navy fabric up against the white base and then the pop of color in the ribbons is just fabulous! Thanks so much for linking up to Inspiration Friday this week!
