When I first heard about the act of choosing a "Word of the Year" and I have to admit I didn't think this was for me. Coming up with a "project" post is no big deal but writing a "thinking" post comes a bit harder for me. Makes me think deeper than I'm prone to do.
But the word Expectation has been in my spirit for a while now and I felt compelled to share.
When I think of Expectation, the first thing I think of is expecting. As in expecting a baby.
Meet Silas! My brand-new nephew. Silas is baby #3 for my brother Matt and his wife Amanda and grandbaby #14! Isn't he the most precious thing? You can read more about Silas at my brother's blog, Tree Newt's Wading Pool.
(Talk about a deep thinker!)
At this stage of my life this is NOT what I was thinking of...just in case you were momentarily confused that it was me who was expecting!
No, in this case my sense of Expectation...
is
to hope
to anticipate
to dream.
Especially, here at the beginning of a new year we all have a fresh sense of Expectation.
Every. Single. Day.
I wake up thinking...
"What's on my to-do list? What do I have to finish? What needs to be accomplished? What am I fixing for supper?!"
What if I started my day with...
"In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait expectantly". Psalm 5:3 NIV
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait expectantly". Psalm 5:3 NIV
What if?
Imagine the Possibilities. The Expectations!
I know I will always tend to think in terms of
What can I get done today?
What can I cross off my list?
What's my next project?
I'm just wired that way!
But I want to begin each morning with the expectation and knowledge of God's presence in my day. He's the one who initiates
the anticipation...the hope...the possibility of.....
learning something new
seeing something differently
creating something beautiful
experiencing something new
recognizing new opportunities
being used of Him
...the possibilities are endless!
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:29 NIV
Do you have a Word of the Year?
What are your Expectations for the new year?

I've been thinking about my word of the year too. I'm torn between "acceptance" and "happiness". Each one fit so well with where I want to go this year. Maybe I'll have 2 words :)

ReplyDeleteMy WORD for the year is BELIEVE. I did a post about it the other day...to believe in myself and what I can accomplish with God's help. xo Diana
I think that is a great word. I am always expecting great things when you post and you never let me down. :)

ReplyDeleteoh you can thank your pastor and I will thank you! This is how I feel too, but maybe I never thought about it literally~yes I have expectations too. Congrats on the newest family member. How sweet!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your family! He's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI really like your word choice for 2012. I believe expecting goodness is key to receiving it. Trusting in miracles and looking for them, searching out the divine amidst the mundane, is all part of faith and certainly makes your life rich.
Here's wishing you abundant joy in the new year! Love every single one of your projects, and this might be the year I make my own Screen Door purchase. : )
So inspiring ! I just posted my word for the year... Faith
ReplyDeleteHe is precious! Congratulations to all of you!
ReplyDeleteExpectations is a great word! I believe when we are letting God lead our path, our expectations are small compared to His desire for out lives♥ My word of the year is, "renew." You can check out my post here: http://aprildawns.blogspot.com/2012/01/my-word-of-year.html
ReplyDeleteWhat a great word! If we don't live with expectations of what God had in store for us, we have an empty life. He is always going to be there, we should live expecting to see His creation every day!
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me think this morning!
Your nephew is precious!
And I'm the deep one....riiiiiiiight! Sis, I love hearing you put words to your desire to know God more, to live for Him, to let Him direct your days. That truly is living in expectation, isn't it?!! I think you do an amazing job verbalizing what God is doing! And, yeah, that little guy is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I love your word. I love to wait up and expect good things. God always has soemthing good in store for us. What an adorable baby your sweet nephew is.
