Since my last post was the Sneak Peek, I'm calling this The Reveal. And it is...but in a photographic puzzle sort of way!
Knowing when this bedding was completed it was going to be shipped, I wanted to take plenty of photos showing you the entire set. Staged so you could see all 6 pillows plus king size duvet!
Blame it on logistics but it just didn't happen that way. I quickly realized it's a bit hard to show off a king size duvet when you don't own a king size bed! My little mama bear size bed just didn't do justice to this papa bear size bedding!
So in order to make sense out of this photographic puzzle I'm including a couple of sketches to give you a better idea of the big picture.
At 116" wide x 100" long this was a large duvet. The duvet was constructed from 4 fabrics, a trim and piping.
This first sketch shows the layout of the different fabrics. Using the paisley as the center, I bordered it on three sides with a red animal print and then topped that seam with a flat braid trim.
A 4" gathered turquoise ruffle along with a brown piping finished the edges of the duvet. The animal print was mitered and topstitched at each corner.
This sketch gives you an idea of how it fits the bed.
The back side of the duvet was constructed from a chocolate brown faux-suede fabric. The zipper closure for the duvet is found on the back side at the lower end. To me this makes more sense than placing the closure at the top where buttons, ties or zippers would be under your chin all night!
Stephanie asked for euro pillows, king shams and a bolster pillow. For the shams I chose a black and white houndstooth bordered by a red flange to give a break from the many ruffles being used.
We decided to use three 27" euro pillows. These were made with a fabulous turquoise damask and double ruffles. I love the contrast of the chocolate brown silk velvet ruffle being loose and flowy while the bright green ruffle stands a bit more firm.
And last, but certainly not least, the 24x8 bolster made from 4 fabrics and a bright green tassel fringe. Visit this post, for a how-to on a similar bolster pillow.
And to think, it all started with just one accent pillow!
Isn't it funny how often that happens?
