This cute little window, nestled in the corner of a staircase landing, was in need of a bit of dressing up.
The plantation shutters were doing an admirable job controlling light and privacy but something a bit softer was required.
The plantation shutters were doing an admirable job controlling light and privacy but something a bit softer was required.
A stunning ivory sheer was the answer. Covered in row after row of tiny tucks, this cotton sheer was the perfect choice to soften up this window.
As beautiful as the fabric is, in my mind's eye I saw a scrumptious long, flowy trim sewn along the lead edge.
Notice the key phrase "in my mind's eye"?
Translation: Can't be found.
Solution: Make it yourself.
So that's what I did!
Using 3 different shades of 1/2" ribbon and 2 yarns I created my own
Custom Ribbon Fringe!
To ensure fullness, the panel is 1.5 widths or approximately 81" wide (before seams and side hems). The two widths of fabric were sewn together using a french seam.
I created this image to help explain the process of a french seam.
The first step is to sew the two pieces of fabric, wrong sides together, using a 3/8" seam allowance. Fold sewn fabrics together, right sides together and iron this seam. With fabrics folded right together sew another seam, using a 5/8" seam allowance, enclosing raw edges with in seam. Iron seam flat to one side. Occasionally I will topstitch this seam after ironing flat. The result is a french seam.
The top is the window treatment was pinch pleated with a loose pleat and long skinny ties made from the same sheer was used to attach the panel to 5 medallions mounted above the window.
An additional medallion was used as the tieback.
