Recently, I shared with you our makeover
of my 13yr old daughter's bedroom.
I cleverly tempted you with a sneak peak
of some artwork we have in her room.
Here's the promised post!
On a previous room rearranging expedition
we found we were in need of a BIG piece of ART!
INEXPENSIVE...BIG...ART!
Have you ever found that a side effect of moving
furniture around is that artwork doesn't fit anymore?
That's what happened to us.
So going through my pile of Hobby Lobby clearance frames
(you know, those great 80%-90% off clearance frames!)
we came across this one. It was probably an "oops" frame
because of the odd size - 21.5"x36".
(Sorry, no before pics.)
Just your basic wood frame that I spray painted
Krylon Watermelon and Pumpkin Orange.
I then cut a piece of beadboard to be the
base of my art and commenced to painting!
I wanted the beadboard to have a
mottled, aged and slightly distressed look but with bright colors.
My painting process is kind of like
my grandmother's cooking...
a pinch of this, a dash of that..
There is no recipe.
I used craft paint, scrapbook paper,
Modge Podge, stain and/or glaze.
I PAINT...SAND...take a step back...
and then PAINT and SAND some more!
I used Modge Podge to apply the paper, making sure the
paper conformed to the shape of the bead board.
I also painted, sanded and stained over the paper as well.
The final coat was a layer of Modge Podge to even out the finish.
I screwed on the glass knobs and hung the painted "K".
The "K" is from Hobby Lobby (originally gold).
Custom, Personalized, Fun and Inexpensive Artwork!
Who could ask for anything more?
(My plan is to bring you a tutorial on a similar project
at a later date...So stay tuned!)
Have a Creatively Blessed Day!

ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much for linking up your altered art. I am a small blog and I love meeting new visitors. I really like what you have done here - incorporating the scrap book paper and the dimensional elements and paint. This is a project I would like to try too. Thank you for the inspiration and the story behind it.
