Lisa has a beautiful home with amazing wood details like oak floors, exceptional wood trim and stained kitchen cabinets. Lisa will be the first to admit there is a LOT of brown in her home. She asked me to help bring in some additional color through fabrics in the form of new window treatments!
Needing to dress a pair of large windows flanking the fireplace in her family room, one fairly large kitchen window and a pair of french doors leading out to her back patio we came up with three different window treatments that all flow together.
Lisa fell in love with a floral fabric we had used previously in her powder bathroom. Even though it's main color is brown, this floral brings in red, gold, green, and touch of blue. From there we added this stunning large check, a teeny-tiny red plaid and another brown and red floral. Later, we added this gorgeous green silk.(Seen here on the back of the pillow.)
We treated the french door with roman shades made from the tiny red plaid. I then made scalloped valances from our floral fabric, trimming them with a fun ribbon fringe.
The kitchen window is framed by beautiful woodwork. We hung a cafe curtain from a twisted black iron rod to add softness without hiding the wood trim.
The sweet detail on the cafe curtain is a 1" ruffle made from the large plaid fabric. If you look close, you can see I lined the upper portion of the curtain with the tiny red plaid.
The second floral is an upholstery weight fabric which we used on the pillow as well as a cushion for her fireplace.
I used the apple green silk to make a tiny piping across the top of simple floor length panels for the family room. We then hung the panels from over sized rods and rings in a burnished gold finish.
When hung, the panels puddle slightly on her beautiful wood floors. You can see how these window treatments add that much needed color and softness to her family room.
Now, we're off the tackle the dining room! I wonder where the color wheel will lead us next? I'm thinking anywhere but brown!
Wishing you all a
Colorfully Blessed Day!

Get out of town! I just spent 20 minutes looking at your posts...you have amazing talent when it comes to decorating. About glazing your front door, did you also glaze the trim around the door frame, I see it's a brown now instead of the beige/tan color. I would like to do my front door merlot with some glaze....just beautiful....looking to see if you have a followers gadget.
ReplyDeleteSonya, your attention to detail is just amazing--the green piping, plaid ruffle. The pillow in the last photo is yummy.
ReplyDeleteLisa's window treatments are beautiful! I love the long panels and the valances over the Roman shades. Being a lover of brown, I think her home is gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I came here from Cathy's blog--and she's right about you!
ReplyDeleteI just love these colors, and I am so glad to see you using them. I've heard people make disparaging comments about red and green and brown lately--as if everything now needs to be beachy blue and white slipcovers. Not so! Color still works if it's done well--and you do it very, very well! Thank you!
Gorgeous Sonya! I'm so happy to find a fellow blogger who enjoys warm vibrant colors. Yay!
ReplyDeleteI grabbed your precious button to display!
Enjoy your evening. ~Melissa :)
Hi Sonya! Ummmm...I can think of about 20 different places in my home where that fabric would be PERFECT! I love those rich tones and agree with Melissa that it is nice to find bloggers who enjoy working with warm colors! Thanks so much for linking up to the party today and for your sweet comments! Your front door re-do was definitely Inspirational!
