Fan Flower Valance and Medallions

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you probably recognize this fabric. And more than likely, you will see it again! This dupioni silk plaid is just perfect for so many spaces.

I call this valance a "Fan Flower" valance.  Lisa wanted a simple valance to hang above a cafe curtain in her powder bath.
I'll show you more of the bath later.  (When I took these pictures Lisa had 5 or 6 different paint samples surrounding the cafe's and the pictures almost make you dizzy! LOL!)

The valance is hung with curtain tie-back medallions.  This was the first time I have installed these myself and they were SO easy!

After deciding the placement of each medallion, I screwed the base in place.

So SORRY for the blurry picture! It's the only one I took of this step! The back plate (which has a hole in the center) slips over the base and then the little bar is screwed on. (The bar measures approx. 3")

The small loops, sewn into the "flower", loop over the bar then the medallion is screwed in place.  Honestly, SO simple! I was quite proud of myself!

The "fan flower" is a take on your basic pinch pleat. It is only sewn in place across the bottom thus creating the "fan" effect.  Here it was pinched 5 times. This treatment is great on sheers or cafes and can also be hung with simple clip rings.

Using Medallions is a great option when you want something a little different. The medallions used here are small.  Here you can see another window treatment hung with the same style medallion in large. (And more of this great plaid!)

The medallions can be found at Interior Fabrics.  The silk plaid can be found here.

What do you think? Would you consider using medallions?

Have a Blessed Day!

  3. Yes, I would! I actually was going to use them for a bathroom window valance for a very narrow window and do it in an almost triangular set-up, but we decided to put the house on the market again and I couldn't bring myself to make any new holes in the wall! : ) I would definitely like to try them. I love the Pate Meadows pictures of their valances done on the medallions.

  7. I adore that fabric! I know I've seen it before but each time you give it such a fresh new look. I may have to email you with a window treatment dilemma I'm having and get your opinion. I have limited sewing abilities so my options are limited! :-)
