Color vs Neutral is a constant, on-going dilemma with me. I LOVE color and pattern...but you just can't deny the beauty of this calm, serene and neutral scheme. This elegant space is my friend Susan's master bathroom.
Susan has managed to have both extraordinary color (Remember her kitchen?) as well as a neutral color scheme in her home. She created this calm and relaxing retreat in her master suite.
Her master bedroom and bath are done in shades of cream and white set against a pale blue backdrop. Metallic and crystal touches in the accessories and drapery hardware are the perfect accents.
hangs them from the finial on a lamp! Isn't this a clever idea? Who says your jewelery has to be kept in a drawer or a closet! Keep them where you can see and enjoy them! It adds an additional sparkle to the bathroom!
She continued the metallic touches in her bedroom with a vintage dresser painted silver and crystal knobs.
The master bedroom sitting area just makes you want to curl up with a good book and relax...
See more of Susan's bedroom HERE.
I like Susan's solution to this dilemma! Both color AND neutral!
There we go! Problem solved! Now, to incorporate that into my own home!
Hmmm? Where do I start?
Do you struggle with a color vs neutral dilemma? Does this room make you want to go the calm and serene route? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Have a Blessed Day!

I am definitely digging this look. I think the metallics make it and would love to try a silver dresser. That really looks amazing. As well as all of the little touches and beautiful bedding and pillows everywhere. Sheesh! Sign me up!!!

Yes I do struggle with the neutral/color thing. I got your comment on my new paint job in progress...I have figured out that I need a more neutral backdrop but I can have the colors I want in bits and pieces like pale pink roses, a painted table or mirror in soft blue or plates on a wall in purple transferware. I am loving the calmness in the surround that lets my accessories stand out..so I love color, just not on my walls in a big way is the answer I have found. I loved your friends bathroom. For me I would add the blue in the drape or the cabinets, use those fab accessories in metallics...and have the walls stay greige.
ReplyDeleteHi, i have to be honest. I have not been inspired by a blog in a long time. But your blog just makes my creative juices flow. I love your ideas. I love, love your mix of fabrics. Totally in love with your drapes, pillows and runners. I kinda sound obsessed. But i am so thrilled not to see the boring neutrals that i see. And if i already wrote u before , which now i am kinda thinking i have, sorry . I just want to make sure u know that someone out there in blog land (me) admires your style. Now can u please put your whole house on here. Cause i have gone thru your whole blog and i am dying to see the whole house!!! Mishelle
ReplyDeleteWow...would love to relax in there...I go through the same thing. I see so much fun and colorful fabric and want it all, but then I get bombarded with too much! What a nice balance those rooms are.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bedroom! I like the cream colors used with a color; it does give it a calming, serene and relaxing feeling, which I think is exactly what is needed in a bedroom. I've got a blue/grey on my walls and use brown down through to tan with it.
ReplyDeleteYes this is a cozy area here. If I think about color too long I confuse myself.
ReplyDeleteHi Sonya,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely struggle with the neutral vs color thing! I love color- but I love serene neutrals!! I love white slipcovered or painted pieces and everything peaceful looking, but then I find myself craving dark woods, and color drama in the room! I think the room above is gorgeous! A perfect mix of white and some color. The walls are beautiful! :)
What a beautiful space. I think it is one of the most beautiful rooms I have seen in blogland. Very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteStunning is definitely the right word to describe this space! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the tops of the window treatments. Sooo pretty. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe room is beautiful!! I love the soft touches of the feather pillows, the soft shades of cream and elegance of the metallic!! Wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog. WOW is all I can say. You have a great imagination and great talent. Your style is similar to mine, I'm just not that brave. I love your girls' rooms. I have 11 year old twins restless to redecorate their rooms. I've promised when they turn 13 we will do it. I'm afraid if we do it now, they will be unhappy in a couple years. I'm going t use your photos for inspiration. I also never thought about using old skirts for lampshades. I ALWAYS struggle with my shades and have wasted time and money trying to find something in a store. I can't wait to go through my pile of clothes waiting for the spring garage sale. Thanks for the great ideas. Add me to the list of your very happy followers.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I don't have any neutral color rooms--my bedroom comes the closest. Susan really knows how to relax with all of those boys around ;).
ReplyDeleteDear Sonya ~ Wow, can Susan ever put a room together! The photos are gorgeous and I am smitten with her wall colour! BEAUTIFUL! I struggle constantly with colour because while I love loud colours ~ I simply find that I cannot live with them after a while! It IS a dilema!
ReplyDeleteHi Sonya! That was such a treat to see those gorgeous spaces and honestly, my approach to the neutral vs. color thing is to do a little of both in my house too. I have a very neutral master bathroom and our bedroom is also a little more muted than the rest of the house. I think it is about picking the rooms where you want things to be the most calm and go from there. I do know though, that I will NEVER be able to get away from color because it just sucks me right in! :-)

Susan's master bedroom and bath are stunning! I love the pale blue and the metallics. You know I have no trouble with neutrals :), and this is just gorgeous. Although, I love her colorful kitchen, too. What a beautiful home she must have.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bedroom and bath your friend has! I love all the soft colors. How relaxing and serene! I love you blog and I'm adding you to my blog roll (just figured out how to do that)!
ReplyDeleteWell the room is perfect!! LOL For real! I am not much on the super light neutrals, but this room really looks fabulous! Lovin' all the texture.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I just love all the pillows - ruffles and feathers **sigh**
ReplyDeleteThe curtains and pillows are to die for. Oh, and that dresser is stunning! Your bedroom is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery elegant! I love the drapped necklaces. I kind of do that too. Displays your pretties:)
ReplyDeleteHi Sonya, I know I already left a comment on this post but I wanted to come back over and say thank you for linking it up to the party this week! :-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous room -- the blue is a perfect choice, and all of the little details bring it together. Just lovely

Hey there Sonya~ LOVING this room all over again!!! It is gorgeous! Stopping back over to say thank you so much for sharing this at Feathered Nest Friday!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I also go back and forth between color/calm...our new house is going a little different direction...somewhere in-between...and oh my goodness!- LOVE your new pillow...and that very happy kitchen you featured!!! (just catching-up)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Blessings!

Hey, Sonya. Added myself as a follower. I love the neutrals in these photos. I think when using neutrals the textures set the tone. Here everything thing is soft and ruffled or fringed. It feels very feminine and calm. I love neutrals as long as they include patterns and lots of texture. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have a heck of a time with color versus neutrals. I'm most recently thinking that I'll go with neutrals on the sofas and chairs and then I can change the pillows out or combine colors as much as I like. That's this week......
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' that silver painted dresser!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Kim
Hey, do you think she would share the technique/paint color???
ReplyDeleteWow, this is totally gorgeous. I'm afraid I'd have to boot my DH out the door to pull this off, but there are several parts I will definitely borrow & use to create a bit more luxury in our master bath.

That is a beautiful room. I love it. I want it all! Great touches to make it unique and special. Thank you so much for sharing!
