Christmas Home Tour - KITCHEN

If you've followed this blog for a while you will probably recognize this kitchen. And just like the dining room and family room on this Christmas Home Tour, we continue to see the creative and bold use of color!
The old shutters that line the window sill were recently found at an estate sale.  Elizabeth painted them red and placed them here for a bit of additional privacy and color.

Her kitchen table centerpiece is the family's collection of Santas.

Each place setting features a different Christmas themed salad plate found at Southern Nazarene University's book store in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Here's a great view of their gorgeous bright red cabinets. The custom paint treatments in this kitchen range from the high gloss red, to glazed green, to distressed white. (see below) Stunning!

Droop valance treatment in the breakfast area.

Looking back to the work area of the kitchen, you see a glimpse of the distressed white cabinetry.

Look at the clever way Elizabeth filled her glass canisters with Christmas candy and marshmallows! Love the marshmallow idea!
More large glass canisters, found at Target, hold snacks close by for her family.

I may get in trouble for the next two photos but I just had to show you her pantry! I have this thing about using predictable doors on pantries. (Just a small pet peeve!) So, I love that Elizabeth chose a red, clear glass door for her pantry.  Another opportunity to think outside the box and be creative!

And call me crazy, but I think this is just the absolute best idea! I mean, really, kitchen trashcans are NEVER big enough! The first time I saw this, I went right out and bought one! (Did you know that Elizabeth?) Even though I couldn't leave mine in our pantry (not enough room) I would pull it out everytime we had a party!

Over time, my big metal trashcan ended up on the back patio.  I think I need to go buy a shiny new one and bring this idea back!

So many great, inspiring ideas for your home!

Don't you just want to go paint something RED?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  2. Paint your trash can red! I had a painted can in my last kitchen- embellished with sunflowers that I painted. Did it after I saw painted big cans on sale for a pretty price at a craft show. After seeing your post I want to go and paint another one for my new kitchen!

  8. Hi Sonia! While I don't want to go out and paint anything red (sorry - I over-did red in my house over the last ten years so I'm painting OVER everything red right now), I definitely need to run to Target and pick up some of those glass canisters! I do not have a pantry in my kitchen and let me tell you if anybody needs one it's ME. I bought plastic canisters and keep them filled with 3 of our favorite cereals. The 4th one is full of a variety of favorite granola bars and fruit snacks! This comes in extremely handy when the kids barely catch the bus in the morning and they can just grab one of those in lieu of breakfast. The tin can - hmmm, I had one of those once... did I leave it outside to rust? I love the look of it and perhaps I should replace the plastic bin that we keep the dogfood in with one of those lined in the plastic bag (good idea - I didn't think of the plastic bag as a liner!). Thanks for the great ideas ;)
