Grayson's Room

Do you remember the feeling of moving into a new home, whether "new" to you or brand new and the amount time it takes to make it feel like home? It doesn't happen over night, does it?
Jenni and her family recently moved into their new, custom built home.  And let me tell you, it is gorgeous! But even with every detail having been chosen specifically for them, it is still quite a process to make a house feel like a home!
Jennie decided to begin that process in her children's bedrooms.  She had a strong sense of what look she wanted to achieve in each room. I was privileged to help pull it all together with fabric!
Today, I'm showing you her son Grayson's room.  This room has a fun, whimsical take on the traditional hunting theme.

Jenni had her painter paint a large, oversize, almost cartoon-like camouflage paint treatment on the lower portion of the walls. Just above the camo, is an 8" band of orange. Jenni plans to add a small border of dark brown just above and below the orange band for definition.
Wanting to emphasize the hunting dog aspect of room's theme, Jenni chose a great, Labrador silhouette accent pillow for the bed. We added the 26" euro pillow in a chocolate brown dog print.
Using the colors of the camouflage paint treatment as inspiration, we continued with the fun and whimsical feel of the room in the fabrics chosen for the window treatment.
No matter how many window treatments I design, I still love seeing the transformation they make in a room!  To me, no other design feature makes such an impact, or helps a house feel more like a home, than window treatments!

Specific details on this window treatment coming soon!

How do you feel about window treatments?

  8. More is more! They finish it off, tie it together, change the feel of the room immensely. I love that room and I especially love that the windows weren't skimped on for a boys room and that they have the same thought and detailing as a girls room. I have clients that sometimes don't think their boys will appreciate "nice". Great room without being too "themey". I love your work.

  9. Where window treatments are concerned ... the more the better, especially if they're designed and made by a talented seamstress! Dressing the windows is always the finishing touch to a well designed room in my opinion! Grayson's room is fabulous ... what a great modern twist on a hunting theme ... LOVE IT!

  10. I do think more is better where window treatments are concerned. The problem is that my talented sister (ahem) lives half way across the country. :) I love all the orange in Grayson's room, and the fabrics you selected are just perfect.

  11. Ack! I'm probably the wrong person to ask that question because I love window treatments, Sonya! I have to say it depends on the room. I like "less" like the valance and roman shades in my own kitchen because it allows more light in and doesn't get in the way. But in rooms where I want that "cozy" feeling I like drapes, whether they are stationery or over some kind of shade or blind.

It's nice that Jenni let her son's personality show through in his room. I am a big believer in letting kids in on the decorating decisions in their bedrooms.

  14. Hi Sonya! Wow, those are very unique and creative window treatments! How funny that I just posted yesterday about adding layers (i.e. MORE window treatments?). Of course, I feel this way when it's freezing in the middle of winter. When spring comes, I want to throw the windows and doors open and let that fresh air in and I do tend to either remove panels or cafe curtains or replace panels with casual, airy ones for the warmer months.

  19. Oh, the more the better of course! :-) Surprise, surprise that I feel that way! But I truly do agree that nothing makes a house feel like a home more quickly than window treatments. And those ones are just absolutely perfect in that room. Fun and funky but still tailored at the same time. I love it! Thanks so much for linking this up to the party Sonya!
