Painted & Papered School Desk

Every little girl needs a desk where she can play school, create art projects or just a place to display little girl treasures!
Amy said she wanted something cute for her daughter, Kaylie, to use in her bedroom. She got this old, scarred and battered school desk for free, then asked me to transform it, however I wanted!
The color scheme in Kaylie's room is lime green, pink and black with the walls being green. After a coat of primer, the base of the desk was painted a fuchsia pink.

I painted the inside of the desk black thinking this would be the best color not to show wear. Well, easier said than done! You've heard of paint by numbers. Well, this was paint by flashlight! It was impossible to see what I was painting otherwise!
The top of the desk was a laminate. I decoupaged a black and white, damask scrapbook paper over the entire desk surface.
To create some interest across the top, I added a large "K", for Kaylie, along with a few flowers.
To create the "K", I found a font I liked on the computer, enlarged the K to the size I wanted, printed it off, cut it out and traced the K onto scrapbook paper. After cutting out the zebra K, I backed it with the lime green to give it more dimension.
The flowers were cut straight from scrapbook paper. Everything was then decoupaged onto the desk.
The entire desk received several coats of polyurethane with the top of the desk getting 5 coats!
The Power of Paint!

Blessings!
