If these are terms you like to use when describing your window treatments, then you're going to LOVE this little curtain!
This sweet curtain was made to hang in the tiny window of a downstairs bathroom. The green floral of the ruffle is the fabric used on the main body of floor length panels in the adjoining den.
The green floral panels were topped with a 15" chocolate brown flap. I added a 6" band of blue to the top of the lining so you would see this contrasting color in the droops.
Even though the brown fabric appears to be sewn as a band of fabric to the green floral, it is actually a flap made like an attached valance. (see below) The trim was created from two separate trims, a flat braid and the beaded trim.If you look closely at the brown sheer, you can see the vine and floral pattern is actually three dimensional and topstitched on the fabric. (The fabric came this way. I'm good...but I'm not THAT good!) I love the way this little curtain turned out!
The red and tan cheetah print flap across the top of the panel is 6" long with a 2" gathered ruffled out of the green floral. Here you can see I lined the backside of the flap with a solid brown.
I also used the same dark brown as a facing for the backside of the panel since this curtain was not lined. Across the bottom of the facing is a 1/2" hem that was turned under and pressed in place. An extra 1.5" was left on each end for a side hem.
The fabrics were layered as you see above...sheer, flap, facing (right sides together with flap) and sewn together. The facing was then turned, pressed flat to the back of the panel and topstitched in place (to the sheer only) The side hems were turned under and stitched in place. Notice the gorgeous scalloped edge detail on the sheer fabric.A little trick I sometimes use when "training" panels to hang as I'd like, is to use clothespins to hold the folds in place. The cheetah fabric is an upholstery weight fabric so this was a great solution. This process can take from 30 minutes to 24 hours depending on the stubbornness of your fabric.
So...how do you feel about adding a little
Whimsy to your Windows?

So beautiful, Sonya! I love all the fabrics but that brown sheer is amazing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous as always. That vine fabric is too cool.
ReplyDeleteI didnt even have to see the curtains to know I would love them! The title said it all, so cute as always
ReplyDeleteHow pretty and fun, too! Great tip with the clothespins. I'll have to remember this tip.
ReplyDeletehave a great day~L
These are just beautiful, Sonya! Love the fabrics and I'm always up for fun and whimsy in a window treatment! The smaller panel is such a good idea because some bathroom windows are just so small {or narrow, like one in my house} that you just don't know what to put there.
ReplyDeleteLOVE! What a great combo of fabrics! Your post title describes it perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI am still working on gathering fabric for the curtains we talked about. I will e-mail you soon;)!
Oh my goodness, I love this, you are awesome!! You have such amazing ideas, and they all turn out gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Nicole
Your curtains are always so detailed and have a trademark look to them. I love the den curtains with the blue interior flap and how you beefed up the trim by putting two components together. The combinations are great! I never heard of the clothespin as a trainer, and its a great idea. When I do this curtain I will often make the clip on ring hardware pinch a fold at the top to create more fullness in the panel. It gives a deeper fold, do you ever do that?
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to see your use of fabric Sonya...spectacular! XO
ReplyDeleteGreat tip about the clothes pins. I love the beaded trim!
ReplyDeletenever thought of clothespins! Love the cheetah - so fun. And the pop of blue really makes that other curtain just pop.
ReplyDeleteI love that red/tan leopard fabric - so fun!
ReplyDeleteThese are great Sonya!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful is all I can say and I am now a new follower! Can't wait to see what you create next.
ReplyDeleteBoth of those window treatments are gorgeous! Love the sheer fabric, and using the blue to just peek through on the den panels is stunning!
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely curtains that take ordinary windows and give them the "WOW" factor! Even the smallest of windows look so lovely when dressed properly!
ReplyDeleteThey are all fantastic. Great tip on how to "train" curtains!

Sonya, these curtains are beautiful... I'm actually feeling inspired to look through my scrap bins to see if I can dress up my store bought, ready made curtains... of course, once I start, i will only create a terrible mess... I might have to send you some picks and ask for a bid for some draperies...
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know, girl!
Blessings,
Billie
