Your basic metal or wood rings would have worked but I felt the hardware needed to be a paint treatment similar to the almost concrete-like appearance of the bed, seen in photo.
I started with basic wood hardware in an oak colored stain.
Each piece of hardware got a coat of primer. (A few wedding projects got a coat of paint at the same time. More on that later.)
I had to get a bit creative using wood skewers to hold the rings while the paint dried.
Each piece was then painted with a flat white interior paint. Using flat white paint as the base was key in achieving the concrete-like look similar to the bed.
Sometimes things just work out for the best even when you don't plan a thing! A few weeks prior I had ordered my free Valspar paint sample in "porch gray" with NO idea of what I was going to use it for! I also picked up this Behr "oops" paint on a whim! These two colors were the perfect combination to create this look.
It took three tries in mixing the paint to get the color I wanted. The one on the right was the winner.
Once the color was right I painted each piece...
and immediately wiped the paint off. The flat base paint grabbed the darker color and when wiped off created, just the look I wanted.
This was a very happy surprise. It really was an experiment to see if I could get this look. I was so excited when it turned out so well.
Here you can see the difference between the flat white base paint and the final look.
A sneak peak of the bedroom shows a glimpse of the bed and new window treatments in the background. More details on the window treatments coming soon!

It really looks like concrete! Amazing job (I have never seen a concrete bed) - I can't wait to see the full thing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Sonya! Will you remember the formula now? : ) I never remember and always have to start over when I mix my own paint. They look beautiful. Very clever using the skewers to help hold the rings while drying.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the "big picture", but from what I can see of the drapes, they look great!
I can't believe you have time for this. I get stressed when I have clients and a big event or trip coming up at the same time. Doesn't it always seem like there is so much going on - personal and business - all at the same time?
Those look amazing!!! I can always count on you for being a trend setter! Can't wait to see the final look!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty color! Can't wait to see more! :)

ReplyDeleteI am very, very impressed! I would have been scouring the internet for concrete curtain rings!
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful.
Sonya,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely room! The bed is amazing! The paint mix is beautiful and the room, for what we could see is absolutely beautiful!! Nice job!!!
How fantastic, Sonya -- I would have thought to coordinate -- not try to match :). It's your creative brain at work, again. Nice to see you're multi-tasking for the wedding! Hugs, Kim
ReplyDeleteFabulous job...you really look at the details! I love your method of using the skewers to let the rings dry. What a lovely addition to this room!

Ohh it's looking wonderful already Sonya!! Can't wait to see the reveal! I love the drapery rods painted- and great idea on the skewers! :) You asked about the white plant in my photo- it's called 'Snow in Summer' or Cerastium. It is soo pretty in person too- tons of gorgeous flowers and the leaves are a nice silvery green color. :) Thanks for sharing at my party this week! :)
ReplyDeleteThose look beautiful! I have a window treatment in the "man cave" hung with those same rings. I need to throw out the curtains, paint my rings, and start over. The drapes are so old I'm surprised they're not falling apart. And Hubby could care less! But they look just peachy with his gun case with the duck on the front that he refuses to let me get rid of. MEN!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented Sonya..I love your work!
