Painting Curtain Hardware

My latest window treatment job for a master bedroom called for something a little out of the norm when it came to the curtain hardware. 

Your basic metal or wood rings would have worked but I felt the hardware needed to be a paint treatment similar to the almost concrete-like appearance of the bed, seen in photo.

                

I started with basic wood hardware in an oak colored stain.

Each piece of hardware got a coat of primer. (A few wedding projects got a coat of paint at the same time. More on that later.) 

I had to get a bit creative using wood skewers to hold the rings while the paint dried. 

Each piece was then painted with a flat white interior paint. Using flat white paint as the base was key in achieving the concrete-like look similar to the bed. 

Sometimes things just work out for the best even when you don't plan a thing! A few weeks prior I had ordered my free Valspar paint sample in "porch gray" with NO idea of what I was going to use it for! I also picked up this Behr "oops" paint on a whim! These two colors were the perfect combination to create this look.

It took three tries in mixing the paint to get the color I wanted. The one on the right was the winner.

Once the color was right I painted each piece...

and immediately wiped the paint off. The flat base paint grabbed the darker color and when wiped off created, just the look I wanted.

This was a very happy surprise. It really was an experiment to see if I could get this look. I was so excited when it turned out so well.
