I'd like to share a couple of Christmas tree skirts I've recently made. But they couldn't be more different!
This one is made from burlap, trimmed with a tea stained scrim ruffle.
When my friend Judy saw this quite nontraditional tree skirt, she asked if I'd make one for her to match her Christmas decor.
Armed with stockings she had purchased at Pottery Barn, we headed to the fabric store to see what we could find.
All of these fabrics were purchased at a local quilt shop. As you can see, only two of the fabrics shown are traditional Christmas patterns.
Using the same concept as the inspiration tree skirt, I placed the pieces together in a random pattern. After sewing together, I folded the pieced top together in fourths, marked my circle and cut it out.
The outer edge is trimmed with a 2" gathered ruffle while the inner edge is finished with a 1/2" ruffle.
Instead of matching the tie closure, I decided to use three different fabrics to made the ties. The skirt is inter lined with a thin piece of cotton flannel and lined with a solid red cotton. It measures approximately 54" in diameter.
When you think about all the different color schemes and fabrics used during the Christmas season, just imagine the possibilities!
And if you're a quilter...you could take this simple piecing project to an entirely different level!

I love the color combos..you do such a great job at that. I am going to go like your FB page. I finally have one up on mine, not sure what took me so long to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteYour work is always so wonderful, Sonya! You are a natural at putting fabric combos together.
ReplyDeleteLove it! It almost gets me in the mood for Christmas! Still seems too early although I know it will be here before we know it!
ReplyDeleteI love treeskirts, but kind of sad they get covered up with presents sometimes. I must find a way to stack my presents somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Sonya! I feel like that's how I start all my comments to you! : ) You have such a great eye for detail and putting these fabrics together. I agree with Lori that it is a shame to cover these up with presents.
ReplyDeleteIt's just darling, Sonya. I love the color combination. Nothing says Christmas like turquoise ;)!
ReplyDeleteI love it - so pretty and happy for the season! Day full of happiness to you -
ReplyDeleteI am drooling over the burlap skirt! I have the burlap fabric, along with all of the animal print fabric that I bought last year to make a tree skirt, still folded in a bag, lol. But your my inspiration! I am making a burlap tree skirt this year, along with the burlap stockings for the bedroom mantle.
ReplyDeleteI'd say i need you to make me one of these, but since I don't have a Christmas tree that might be the first thing on the list :) Very cute mom!
ReplyDelete- Your Daughter who [HAS] to remain nameless. Against her wish. Because blogger hates her.:)
