Our Fascination with Burlap

Several blogging friends have been highlighting our love of burlap by hosting burlap themed parties.
I decided to gather a few of my burlap projects into one post so I could participate!
From tree skirts...
to stenciled pillows with scrim ruffles...
 to pillows with ribbon fringe...
to table runners with scrim or lace ruffles...
I've developed a love of working with this humble fabric!
So many fun projects I'd still like to try...wreaths, stockings, ornaments, even upholstry.
So many ideas, never enough time!
Maryanne at Domestically Speaking has a tutorial for printing on burlap! I think I may give that a try next!

  5. I adore all of your burlap creations! Your work is lovely. I've been contemplating using it to make some items myself. My only hesitancy is how much it sheds. Do you find the shedding to be a problem with your sewing machine or is there a particular place you purchase your burlap that doesn't shed as much? Do you launder it first?

  6. Loving that ruffle trim pillow Sonya. You are super-talented. I was just over visiting Nancy at Southern Graces and saw her runner and said, that looks like something Sonya made. Sure enough it was one of yours. Needless to say, your creations are one-of-a-kind and I just love, love, love all of the color combinations.

  7. I love the fabric you used for the ruffles on your pillows, tree skirt and table runner, Sonya! It really gives a "rough" and "soft" look to these pieces and I love that together.

  10. Do you use a different grade of burlap? I bought some at Hancocks that seemed to be better, I went back to buy some more a couple months later and they looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for the better stuff, it was even on a bolt unfolded, much better quality. But I have not seen it anywhere else. Am I crazy, do they make different grades?
