Today, I have another window treatment to share with you.
This time the starting point was this gorgeous golden brown damask.
Rachel, a reader of Beyond the Screen Door, contacted me about making window treatments for her family room. She had already purchased the damask but wanted to mix it up with other fabrics and trims.
Rachel shipped her damask fabric to me and through a series of emails, phone calls and numerous photos going back and forth we decided on which style and fabrics worked best with the damask. Floor length panels were made for a large window in her family room.
The attached valance is made from a red, brown and gold diamond fabric accented with a chocolate brown velvet ruffle and beaded fringe.
Since these panels were being shipped and I wouldn't be able to take photos after they were hung, my handsome assistant (aka #1 Son) helped hold them for me.
Rachel's inspiration came from this window treatment which also included the velvet ruffle along the lower edge.
Two smaller windows in the same room got a different treatment.
Here we chose to go with a valance made from the same fabrics but in a different arrangement.
One of my most often asked window treatment questions is
"Do you need to keep the same style window treatment or fabrics on all the windows in a room or adjoining rooms?"
The answer is NO. I feel that similar (but not matching) treatments or coordinating fabrics can work just as well in adjoining spaces. For me, this decision is based on the room, the size of the windows, how they relate to each other and most importantly, the client.
If you stand in my living room you can see 4 different window treatments and 4 different sets of fabrics.
Too much?
For some, undoubtedly!
But for me, I enjoy the blending of all these patterns.
Ultimately, it's your home! You live there. What makes you comfortable is what matters. I'm just there to help!
How do you feel about different window treatments in the same room?

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Sonya! That must be some size window! I would tell my clients the same thing. Especially if a particular window might look better with a roman shade and bigger windows had drapery. I know they would hesitate even over that, until I would show them pictures and tell them, we can use the same fabric, it will just be used in a different way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as always Sonya. You do such great work. I just added your link as well to the laundry room post. I did when I first showed it, but forgot in today's post. All done now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a scrumptious window treatment. I hope your customer forwards a photo so we can see them in the room. Another wonderful job, my friend. Enjoy #1 son while you can!
