Anyone recognize this red floral fabric? I bet most of you have seen it before.
In her previous home, Jenni had floor length dining room window treatments made from this floral. It's called Queensland. When she moved into her new home she asked if I'd revamp the old panels into something a bit more fun and not quite so serious for her laundry room.
In Jenni's laundry there is one teeny tiny window that is just a bit awkwardly positioned with more room to the right than the left.
I suggested the idea of draping it to the right, using an animal print fabric for the lining and ribbons for the ties.
Jennie jumped on this idea and then added her own spin to it by purchasing these adorable metal and glass-knob hooks from Hobby Lobby to use as the hardware.
She took it a step further by buying multiple ribbons is a variety of unexpected prints and colors to add to the curtain.
We used 5 ribbons, knotted and attached as a "faux tie" with another ribbon actually functioning as the tie to hang the curtain.
A metal medallion holds the curtain to one side.
Please excuse my breaking the #1 rule of photography by using a flash. It was absolutely impossible to get decent pics without it!. (At least for me) I tired.
So this particular little curtain includes several ideas that might translate to a window treatment for you.
*Multiple ties instead of rings.
*Line a window treatment out of a contrasting print.
*Use unexpected hardware instead of traditional rod and rings.
*Up-cycle old window treatments into something fun and funky!
Did you notice the distressed paint finish on her cabinets?

ReplyDeleteLove it. I use to have pillow shams out of the red fabric. I love her green distressed cabinet that I saw, too. That is what I may be doing in the kitchen soon if I get to it.

ReplyDeleteI still love Queensland! I used it in my master for many years and loved it mixed with the leopard too. I think it's a classic that I will never get tired of.
