I have this thing about ruffles!
I'm thinking...
"Why make a pillow with just one ruffle
when you can make one with 7?"
This pillow is 24"x24" and made from
a beautiful piece of pale pink vintage linen.
The face of the pillow is made by piecing together
7 separate strips of fabric - each with an attached ruffle.
Each strip is cut 4.5"x24".
Each ruffle is cut 9"x36" (1.5 times fullness)
The ruffle is folded in half (right sides together), sewn
on each end, turned right side out, gathered and attached to
a strip leaving 1/2" on each end for a seam allowance.
Each ruffled strip is then sewn together
until all 7 pieces are in place.
Here is how the pillow face will look.
All sewn together it actually measures 24.5"high x 24"wide.
And should resemble this on the wrong side.
At this point, I cut a 2"x36" piece to make a
1/2" ruffle for the back of the pillow.
I also made 6 ties (1/2"x 9" finished) to attach for closure.
The back consists of 2 finished pieces.
The first piece is cut 12"x24" with a 2.5"x24" facing
(shown below). The ruffle is gathered,
pinned in placed, as well as 3 of the ties, and sewn.
The piece is then turned right side out and ironed. The facing is
turned under and top stitched in place
to finish the top piece of the back side of the pillow.
The second piece is cut approximately 18"x24"
and folded under to form a hem. These two pieces are then
placed to overlap approximately 3" to form the sham style opening.
their partners and sewn in place.
The 2 finished pieces are then sewn together
on each side at the overlap.
Before sewing front and back together,
pin each tie, as well as the edge of each ruffle, to keep
them out of the way.
Place the 2 pieces right sides together and sew.
And there you have it!
