Robin asked me to make new pillows for her family room with the color scheme being deep red, gold and black. I made 2-24x24" zebra pillows with double 5" ruffles. One ruffle in red, one in black. And a 20x26" accent pillow in a patchwork style.
The accent pillow began with an upholstery weight, paisley tapestry as the center, an embroidered vine pattern for the ends, a black and tan houndstooth, a black, red & tan stripe for the ruffled ends and a solid burgundy for the back. A flat braid trim was added as well. One of my favorite details is the tiny 1/2" burgundy ruffle across the top and bottom of the tapestry center. Here you can see the detail of the red and black ruffles. Even though the ruffle fabrics are solids, they both have a tone-on-tone pattern to add interest. The zebra pillows can be displayed with the black ruffle to the front as well.
Robin may choose to use the pillows across her sofa like this or divide them up around her living room. Each pillow is made with a feather insert. For the center pillow, I used a king size feather bed pillow (20x36") but made the pillow cover 20x26". It's easy to do this with feather inserts and it creates a much firmer pillow.
You may remember these two pillows Robin ordered a few months ago. They reside on the barstools in her adjoining kitchen.
So sorry for the quality of the first few pictures. I had already boxed up and shipped Robin's pillows before I took a look at my pictures! Oh, well!
I hope these inspire you to try some fun and creative pillows in your space! Try mixing up your fabrics and patterns. The More the Merrier!
Blessings!

These are beautiful, Sonya! What a great size they are, too. I have yet to try a patchwork pillow, alhough in the past I have done two fabrics {similar to the long pillow in the new set you did}. Loved doing those and adding the flat braid around the inset fabric. You always have such great fabrics, too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as always and you can never ever have too many pillows.
ReplyDeletePillows are the best way to change the look of a sofa or a bed. Your pillows are works of art with your combinations of fabrics and details. I love the miniature ruffle too!

Your constant attention to detail always amazes me. You have an "eye" like no other. Beautiful job, Sonya.
ReplyDeleteI say the more the merrier when it comes to pillows! They instantly warm up a room and the ones you shared with us are absolutely gorgeous! The whole reason I taught myself how to sew was to be able to make pillows (even though mine are not nearly as amazing as yours) and achieve that custom look without breaking the bank.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these with us Sonya!

Yummy!! Love them all. I always make mine a little smaller than the forms also. It does make them "plump" so much prettier. Not that you have a problem with that, everything that you do is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow! They are gorgeous! What stunning fabrics.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pillows!! Love the combination of fabrics!!
ReplyDeleteNever enough pillows! At least not for me. Your work is outstanding. I thought I was following you but my profile didn't come up so oh well..I am now. Love your work!

Never too many pillows or lamps!
ReplyDeleteHello, Sonya! I wanted to stop by and say "thank you" for visiting my blog. My, your pillows are gorgeous! I adore all the details. Did you make the small ruffle trim? I would love to use that trim on pillows for my bed.
ReplyDeletePillows are my passion. Sometimes I worry that they make it difficult to actually sit on the couch because of the sea of pillows, but I don't care. My dog loves to climb on top of the pillows with feather inserts and squoosh them all down to make a comfy nest. It's hard to get mad at him because he looks so comfortable and is so darn cute!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog. I love everything that I have seen. You are very talented!
