When my kids were little I had a small obsession with monogramming. I had their names monogrammed on all sorts of things. Nothing was safe! They each had sheets with their names monogrammed across the top edge of the flat sheet, backpacks, blankets, pillows and even little bloomers my youngest wore over her diapers! (Loved those things)
Well, children grow up and get married...but some things just don't change. The difference here is I used their new monogram instead of their names.
Monogramming by From Babies to Bow Wows Embroidery and Monogramming
I contacted a local couple who does monogramming and asked if they could do a large monogram for me. I planned on making a pillow for my daughter & her husband and wanted the monogram to be at least 6" tall. This particular monogram turned out 6"h x 8"w.
I chose a soft white cotton with a linen look, which I washed first, and had the monogram done in a pale silver gray.
The pillow is was approximately 14x20 with a 3.5" double ruffle on each end. (For some reason, the ruffle appears to be fuller in the center (which could be a cute look!) but is actually evenly ruffled the length of the pillow.) I included a piece of flannel lining with the fabric when I took it to be monogrammed. This gave the thin linen more stability to handle the large monogram.
The pillow cover was made with a zipper across the bottom edge to allow for easy washing.
I loved this idea so much I had a piece of fabric monogrammed for myself as well! Of course, that project hasn't been completed yet but be assured, I'll be sharing it when the time comes.

I love monograms. So pretty. I monogram all of my bags.
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty, Sonya! I do love monograms, too, though I don't have one on a pillow ~ yet. Love the ruffles and this is a nice size for them to put just about anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThat pillow is beautiful; I LOVE the large monogram! Now I know why Courtney is on the hunt for neutral bedding. :)
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! I love the swirly monogramming. Your pillow definitely has more staying/heirloom qualities than mine do! I'm so glad you finally did another post. Hugs, Kim
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe embroidery work is beautifully done. This is so pretty.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day~L
I have had a hard time finding a place that can embroider huge letters, for a monogram. I saw a very large letter on a linen slipcovered dining room chair and it was gorgeous! Maybe it was 8" tall? Anyway your pillow is a knockout. They say monograms are a southern thing, y'all!
ReplyDeleteThat pillow is adorable! I would love to have one like that. I love monogrammed things and would love my daughters' clothing monogrammed but can't stand the thought of them not getting used again! Did you have that issue?
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous pillow!!
ReplyDeleteSonja, I used to do this all the time! In fact, I had a blast after my divorce doing things for "me". :-) Haven't found anyone to do these so I appreciate the tip. This pillow is lovely ~ and the silver grey is classic!

Such a pretty pillow! I had an embroidery machine and sooo wanted to learn how to embroider and do monograming with it but sadly I have no patience and that never happened.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Why does a monogram make everything look that much more elegant? I love it.
