Customizing Pottery Barn Window Treatments

One of these days I'm going to master the art of window treatment photography. Until then, we'll have to make do with my amateur status. Bright, beautiful, sunshiny days are great when you're out by the pool but aren't as conducive to taking pictures of back lit windows!!!
So, keeping all that in mind...I'd love to show you how we added a custom touch to these Pottery Barn Panels. Jenni purchased the panels from Pottery Barn but wanted to spruce them it a bit. We added a 30" attached valance to the top of each panel.
We used a solid chocolate brown fabric with a tone-on-tone lattice pattern to create the 24" valance. A 6" gathered ruffle was added using a blue fabric with brown dots. On this fabric, the brown dots are actually tiny brown ribbon knots creating a raised pattern. A red, brown and gold brush fringe was added between the two fabrics.
Jenni contacted the company who made the iron staircase railings for her new home to make custom, distressed iron hardware for these windows.
Just look at this! Jennie asked Ryan at Custom Iron Design in Oklahoma City to create the rods with a special detail in the center since she knew these panels would always hang open. I love it anytime you can add this type of detail to a project.
Ryan made 20-2.5" (or maybe 2.75") rings for the long panels and 28-2" rings for the cafe curtains. The rings were sewn on by hand. All 48 of them! The rod for the cafe curtain is a 1/2" twisted metal.

Here you can see where the brown valance was gathered on to the panels. (The valance was made 1.5x's fuller than the panels. The ruffle was made 1.5-2x's fuller than the valance.) The cafe curtains were made from a cotton sheer with an 6" self-flap across the top. These can be pushed to each side to really open up the view.
These beautiful windows are in an open hallway that runs along the back of Jenni's home. This area is adjacent to the kitchen and living room giving the family a wonderful view to their backyard. (Don't you just LOVE these chairs?)

  6. Just beautiful, Sonya! I think if someone put me in a room with window treatments I'd be able to pick yours out in a heartbeat! : ) Love the customization you did to these panels and yes, the chairs are gorgeous! I'm hoping to do something with an attached valance to a pair of drapes in my den that need fixing. Waiting on the fabric, but that project is on the list!
